Favourite French Grilled Ham and Cheese (Illustration)

A classic standby with a delightful twist of ham.

French Grilled Ham and Cheese

Ingredients
  • 8 slices of bread
  • 2 tbsp Dijon or regular mustard
  • 4 Black Diamond Cheddar Slices
  • 8 thin slices of ham
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup Beatrice milk
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 2 tbsp Lactantia unsalted butter or Parkay* margarine
Preparation
  1. Spread mustard on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Arrange 1 Black Diamond Cheddar Slice and 2 of ham on 4 of the bread slices, then sandwich with the remaining bread.
  3. In a shallow dish, beat together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add sandwiches one at a time to soak in the mixture, turn to make sure it’s coated on all sides.
  5. In a large skillet, melt the butter or margarine over medium heat. Cook 2 sandwiches at a time for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cheese melts. Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
