Cheese Jalapeno Biscuit

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • dash cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup Lactantia butter or margarine or Parkay* margarine, cold
  • 1-2 jalapenos, seeded and chopped
  • 1 cup Black Diamond Shredded Sharp Cheddar
  • 1¼ cups Beatrice buttermilk
Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and cayenne. Cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in jalapenos and Black Diamond Shredded Sharp Cheddar. Add buttermilk and stir with a fork just until blended.
  3. Drop dough by ¼ measures into 9” greased springform pan, pushing mounds together. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.
  4. Let cool for about 5 minutes on rack before removing sides of pan. Serve warm.

Cheese Triumphs in Room Temperature

Serve ripened cheeses at room temperature because cold can mask their flavours. To temper cheese, remove it from the refrigerator 30-60 minutes before serving, depending on the hardness of the cheese. Leave the cheese in a fresh, well-ventilated area and cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap to prevent drying.
